DO I NEED ANOTHER ONE !?? the rancher jacket

My first "rancher" with the required stampede style lid ......

Finesilver the Texas brand, was notoriously famous in the 30's and 40's for its numerous violations of labor laws. When other factories were unionized and trying to improve working conditions for their employees ,Finesilver was underpaying them, threatening its largely Mexican work force of deportation if not complying .....

My obsession with the "rancher" canvas jacket, started a longtime ago while watching one of my favorite western : Anthony Mann's " the far country ".In the movie,James Stewart the leading character, was wearing a jacket that at the time was unknown to me.It looked like some sort of shortened chore jacket, what i thought was a customized piece for the purpose of the movie ....That was before i've got my hands on an original one 20 years ago .My jacket was not branded and i didn't care as it was dead on .I still have it to this day .Later, i've discovered that Carhartt was one of the few companies manufacturing this peculiar model and this up until the 80's . From "broken arrow" ,"the naked spur "and "the man who killed liberty valance" ,James Stewart has always been and will always be my favorite .......

FRENCH CONNECTION ....famous french cartoon from the 20's

The compilation of the trio's adventures from 1921 to 1927.This volume, finds our heroes fighting racism .....

Can you be more French!??...

the trio's new friend : John Jackson the price fighter...

Stealing from the bourgeois ....

From left to right:Filochard,Ribouldingue,Croquignol....les pieds nickeles.....

I still can't believe i've found this here in the US .It was last week, while at my favorite bookstore here in SF, looking for xmas presents that i've found this little nugget.I ended up buying it for myself ....i couldn't help!, what are the odds of finding another copie ,as they are already hard to get in France!?

LES PIEDS NICKELES [nickeled feet] are small-time crooks, anarchists and a tad"gentlemen thiefs",as they scam everybody, but always in good spirits.

The trio first appeared in 1908 drawn by Louis Forton an ex jockey who created the strip. Their names : Croquignol,Filochard et Ribouldingue .they have no morals behave like anarchists and speak in slang,a first at a time and very modern for a publication aimed at children...only in France. This issue covers their exploits on the American continent and finds our lazy trio, reluctant to any form of authority and fighting racism. They befriend an African American price fighter and are appalled by the way he is treated by whites .We are in the 20's and the Klan is a considerable "force" to deal with at the time.Their goal will be to help him to get into places that, up until then, were forbidden to him.............

Forton also creates Bibi Fricotin but "Nickeled Feet" is his biggest success.......
